i’m getting sick of the idea that humans hate nature and are becoming dehumanised and cruel towards it. sure, humanity is greedy and selfish and wants to kill trees so they can build skyscrapers, but why can’t we just get over that? why emphasise it and build on it like it’s a new idea?
with brave new world now so far away you may wonder where this is coming from.
actually i just watched avatar, so that makes it pretty obvious.
those who are raving about how fantastic it was are definitely not looking at the bigger picture. a fantastic film has to give a proper message, not one that we’ve seen over and over again.
it was a great movie, don’t get me wrong; i enjoyed every minute of it and the effects were so real, but the amount of evil of the humans was just a little over emphasised.
in addition to my suspension of disbelief being annoyed, the film was rather predictable. someone important always dies, and when it can’t be the main male and female because they’re going to grow old and make babies, it’s the obvious other one or ones. the ending i saw coming from miles away, and the emotions it procured weren’t nearly as strong as what could have been if the characters hadn’t screamed in away they made me wince when they were sad. but then, as a wannabe writer, i guess i’m too impulsive in thinking that everyone wants to trigger emotion.
overall it was a pretty great movie though, and extremely enjoyable if you don’t have to analyse it. unfortunately after hsc english that’s all i can really do.
