she turns around, the tears running down her face, trying to wipe them away stealthily. holding her breath just in case she sniffs, she shuts her eyes and pushes everything out of her mind. she hopes he won’t notice.
he’s turned away too. she knows he doesn’t understand. she knows he won’t understand, because she won’t tell him. and she knows that even though this moment will remain in the back of their minds, they’ll leave it be. they won’t talk about it. because that’s the way it always is.
she struggles to keep her body still, to not give in to the shaking, to not reveal this fragile secret. slow breaths. one second, one moment at a time.
it will all be over soon.
